Fork Seals

New seals/clips/washers fitted. A learning experience as never touched a fork before. Turned out to be fairly straight forward with two provisos.

  1. Make sure you write down the exact order things fitted. Esp how the small bottom spring fits with the damper rod assembly. There aren’t many parts but I still managed to get them in the wrong way round first try.
  2. Use a tool such as this to aid removing the fork lower damper rod assembly. Yes its is a stick!!!  Simply used to jam the inner while you unscrew the bottom allen bolt. Same for reassembly.

Hagons. Fitted along with new seals. Note Spacer not needed with new springs. In fact the new springs are so much longer than the old that I had to phone Hagons to ensure I had the right ones.  I did and they were very helpful. Even after removing the old spacer the new fork is longer than the fork so you get a small amount of preloading when you put the fork caps back on, so you need to be careful not to cross thread the caps.

Fork oil is Hagons 20 and uses 160mm air gap.

These feel both softer and harder than the std springs.  They seem to soak up the small bumps better but feel firmer when pushing on a bit. Not a massive change, but worth doing.

After a long ride I think the new springs/seals must have bedded in as the ride now seems much improved. The forks now seem to deal with everything without any fuss at all, such that I don’t even think about them now. Something that just works - perfect!
