Scottoiler
The bike came with an oiler. But I found filling it fiddly so changed for a large capacity fit and forget job. Hopefully one fill will last a year now.
Fitted large capacity touring version behind number plate. Also using a shoe type dispenser
Large reservoir fits behind the numberplate which makes fitting straight forward ( I couldn’t work out how to place and secure the normal round reservoir.) I think they could improve the design to allow much easier access to the round reservoir with the plate removed. As it is it is still fiddly to adjust.
Slipperblock dispenser
The slipperblock dispenser looked a good idea ... oil the chain and wipe all the crud off at the same time.
In practise though it has some major problems, at least on my Skorpion.
I took care to follow the instructions for installing this device, in particular ensuring it was inline with the chain and wasn’t too close to the rear sprocket. But as you can see there is a very short dispenser tube connecting it to the bike. This I believe to be its main flaw. In use I found that initially the device wouldn’t even stay on the chain - this turned out to be my fault as you have to fit 2 cable ties round it. ( The instructions could be clearer I think ). Once that was done it sort of worked. There is a problem with reversing the bike. At normal pace the device tends to jam and try and twist itself off, but once going forwards it sorts itself out. Scottoil said that this indicates either lack of oil in the block/chain or off centre fitting. Both of which I dispute. The biggest problem is that in less than 50miles of use I had lost the whole device! While riding normally there was a big bang and jolt from the back end, and on stopping I found the whole slipperblock had been ripped off leaving just a pipe dripping oil on the back wheel - not good. I’ve been thinking about this and believe that due to the very short dispenser arm the unit was ripped away when the chain bounced after hitting a pothole. The short arm not giving enough movement to allow for the maximum chain movement. The bang was probably the slipperblock going around the rear sprocket. So all in all I think it was lucky that the chain didn’t come off! Verdict: Not suitable for a Skorpion unless you can engineer the fitting to allow for a much longer dispenser arm. I certainly won’t be using it again and am reverting to the bog standard Scottoiler dispenser.
